A New Shirt From an Old Skirt

Do you ever look in your closet and think "I have NOTHING to wear!!"  Well, that happens to me.  All. The. Time.  And since I'm broke, I try to change the old things into new things.  This shirt, for example, went from being a skirt that I NEVER wear, to a fun summer top... In FIVE minutes!

Another Something for ME

I've had my eye on this pattern from Sewing in No Man's Land for a while now.  And since the ratio of daughter to mom clothing seemed very unbalanced in my household, I figured it was my turn again.

Adventures in Bleach Pen Clothing

Last night I began an experiment with a Clorox Bleach Pen.  I had no idea such a thing even existed until yesterday.  I was inspired by a post I saw on Show Tell Share. What you are about to see here is the result of about a day's worth of trial and error... and just a little bit of stubbornness on my part.

Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo!

cinderella tutorial sewing costume princess

The princess pandemonium continues here at my house.  And, I gotta admit, I love it.  Princesses can be a very misunderstood group.  And, trust me, I know.  I have done much research on the impact of women in the media (a Master's thesis in fact, on the impact of these impressions on girls).  Most princesses are truly a sign of their time period.  The more modern princesses are much more multi-dimensional.  But I digress... I could write an entire essay on why I love princesses so much.

Well... just one more little tidbit that I can't resist.  My daughter and I love to talk about this particular aspect of Cinderella.  Granted, my daughter has no idea who Victor Frankl is.  But there is a lot about Cinderella that reminds me of Frankl.  "At least they can't order me to strop dreaming," she says as she sets the tone of the movie.

And so... at least no one can order me to stop dreaming of beautiful things to sew for my daughter :)
And this... is something I had been dreaming up for some time.

The Fairest Cottage of Them All: How to Make It

A couple of weeks ago I posted about Magnum Opus to date:
Snow White's Cottage.  It is a felt fort I made for my daughter in my free (stolen) time.  I have had several people ask me how I made this.  It's wasn't extremely difficult, but it's wasn't easy either.  It was a time-consuming project.  And... it is my Princess's favorite plaything :)

So here goes:

Upcycled Skirt from Thrifted Shirt

make a skirt from a shirtrefashioned skirt tutorialDIY skirt

At this point some of my friends are starting to think that I have a problem with sewing.  I promise, I can quit anytime I want.  It's just that I don't want to right now.  And, since it is Skirt Week over at crafterhours I felt inspired to pump out some skirts.  This project is one of my favorites because it was quick, my daughter (actually) loves it (this is not always the case), and it was cheap :)
