Hey, I'm Mandy. Thanks for visiting my site.
I have been sewing since I was a little girl. My mom taught me. I had the kind of mom that made all my Halloween costumes, prom dresses and even uniforms for my entire cheerleading team.
I remember one of my very first sewing projects as a kid. I was studying medieval times and I made period-costumes for all of my Barbie dolls. Back then I had 7, which was a big deal :)
Now I am a mom, and I love to sew. In fact I can become a little obsessed. It feels like ideas just come through me and I can't relax until I sew it out. It's very meditative for me. Other times I feel like I want to be challenged to figure something out. Like, how can I make a Jessie costume, or a Snow White cottage, or a giant cake shaped like a duckie? I guess it may be the same way as others feel about training for a marathon.
I enjoy other things too. There was a time that knitting took center stage. Believe it or not, I actually dreamed how to knit one night. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true (great, now I have that Christopher Cross song in my mind). I woke up the next day and made a hat. I've taken a hiatus from knitting for now but I still feel magnetically drawn to beautiful yarn.
One of my favorite things about sewing (or any crafting) is to take something old and turn it into something new. I feel like old garments and objects each have their unique story to tell and they love to be given new life. Plus, there is just soooo much fabric out there... in my closet... at thrift stores... or wherever, that is just waiting to be used somehow.
By day I am a middle school counselor. I feel so lucky to have the best job in the world... no, seriously. I LOVE middle school! And, I own a small business out of my home.
So, that's it: mom, creator, counselor, business-owner. I wear lots of hats. And hats are fabulous after all... are they not?
I made this blog to document some of the things that I make, and to share them with others. I am hoping to network with others out there that are as crazy... (*ahem*) crafty as me. I love to hear from others so please feel free to email me or post messages.
